Success in action: Dawn Zu Zu Yar Khaing’s story

In January 2025, Daw Zu Zu Yar Khine, a farmer from Myit Tan Village within Bogalay Township, discovered about Black Soldier Fly (BSF) farming through training provided by Kyal Sin May Organization, which received technical assistance from Spectrum.
By utilizing BSF larvae as feed for her chickens, she observed their weight increase from 12 to 35 ticals in just one month. Although she faced initial difficulties with overcrowded trays, she modified her techniques and successfully stabilized her production.
Eventually, she sold 9 kg of larvae for breeding purposes, earning more than 100,000 MMK and sparking interest among her fellow villagers. Daw Zu Zu Yar Khine now intends to expand her BSF operation, use the waste as organic fertilizer for her crops, and manufacture solid animal feed—demonstrating a viable model of sustainable agriculture, income generation, and waste recycling.
